Champs Volunteer: Starting Blocks Assistant/Lead

Marlins,

Greenmeadow has to fill some bigger jobs for Champs and we are looking for someone to be Assistant Starting Blocks this year and Head Starting Blocks next year (you will learn the job from this year's lead, then have your own assistant next year). This is a commitment for the 2 years at Champs, so please keep that in mind, but then you can get a really cushy Champs job the following year as a thank you. We don't know the date yet for Champs 2025, but it will likely be Sunday July 13th or 20th.

The Starting Block Head and Assistant give instructions and supervise the workers bringing the swimmers from the Clerk of the Course with the ropes and the workers behind the blocks to make sure swimmers are in the right lanes. The Lead and Assistant don't do the actual job, but train up those who are doing it and work with the clerk of the course to get the flow right so that the meet doesn't run too slow or so fast so that kids are piling up behind the blocks.

While the job is for the whole meet, there are two of you, so you can relieve each other and take breaks. Once you've trained up the workers for each half, there is not too much else to do other than the occasional check in on the meet flow and cheer on swimmers from the pool deck. The perks are that you will get a pass to be on deck anytime at Champs, you get a free lunch, and a huge amount of gratitude from the Marlins! I did this job the last time we had it and it really isn't too bad.

Please let me know if you'd be able to fill this role for us.
Thanks!
Donna
