Practice Meet and Ice Cream Social Info

All,

Exciting to kick off the summer with the Practice Meet tomorrow!  Usually meet details only go to families attending the meet, but since the Ice Cream Social is for all, I wanted to send a reminder that everyone is welcome to join us for that and it will probably around 11:30 (maybe earlier if the meet runs fast).

Below is a timeline and general overview of the meet. I’ve attached the athlete sheet that shows each swimmers events/heats/lanes, a primer on how to read the athlete sheet, the current job sign ups (still some jobs to fill!), and a timer responsibility sheet.

If you were a late add and have not signed up for a job, please check in with LeAnn since we have several spots to fill and need your help. Floaters, please check the list since some of you have already been reassigned. Please text or email LeAnn Baum (507-469-3154 or [email protected]) if you are not able to fulfill your Meet Job for any reason.

TIMELINE:

  • 7:30: All meet, concession, apparel set up volunteers as well as all concessions donations arrive.
  • 8:00: Pool open for swimmers who want to warm up
  • 8:30: All swimmers, all first half volunteers, and all timers arrive
  • 8:45: Volunteer job meetings for timers, clerks, Stroke & Turn
  • 8:50: Team Cheer led by CITs
  • 9:00: Meet starts with events from youngest to oldest in order of fly, back, breast, free, Medley Relays
  • Event 30 (9-10 Girls BR)(approx. 10:30 - 11:00): 1st Half Ends/2nd Half Starts
  • 11:30 - 12:00: Meet should wrap up
  • End of Meet: Free Ice Cream Social in the breezeway.

SWIMMERS: The athlete sheets are attached, which show swimmers’ events, heats, lanes. If you see #18 1/4 that is event #18, heat 1, and lane 4. These numbers are written on the swimmers’ arms like this. The swimmers do not need to check in before the meet, but do line up at the “Clerk of the Course,” which are benches next to the shed, before their events. They should go to the clerk about 3 events before their event.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS: A big thanks to our volunteers! The volunteer sign ups are attached and please check in with LeAnn Baum when you arrive. She will be at a table near the men's bathroom. We will change from 1st half to 2nd half volunteers at Event 30, so listen for the announcement since the time can vary. Please text or email LeAnn Baum (507-469-3154 or [email protected]) if you are not able to fulfill your Parent Meet Job for any reason.

MEDLEY RELAYS: We will run relays, which in JSSL must be mixed gender for each age group. Relay order is (1) Back,(2) Breast, (3) Fly, (4) Free. The coaches decide the relays at the meet. The relays can change at the meet, so please do not leave until you confirm with the coaches that your swimmer is not in a relay.

CONCESSIONS: We will have concessions, which will include coffee, fruit, bagels, donuts, baked goods, and more. Please bring cash or card to enjoy.

APP: Download the SwimTopia app, which will have your swimmer’s events/heats/lanes, results, and your volunteer jobs for meets. The paid version will have results for the whole team and the free version will have your swimmer’s results.

NEW MEMBER GOODIE BAGS: If this is your first summer on the Marlins for all or some of your family, we have a welcome gift bag for you that will be at our apparel table.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Marlins team swimsuit
  • Googles (and an extra pair if you have them)
  • Swim cap: our 2024 caps will not arrive in time for the Practice meet, but we should have them for the June 1st Meet.
  • Towels (On warm days, 1-2 towels per swimmer is sufficient. If it's cold then 3-4 towels.) Mark your towels with your name.
  • Sweatshirt, sweatpants
  • Sunscreen
  • Cash or card for concessions
  • Sharpie pen (to write swimmer’s event/heat/lane assignments on arm)
  • Blankets or chairs for sitting on grass
  • Shade tents/umbrellas, hats, sunglasses
  • A good attitude and some team spirit!

RIBBONS: Swimmers will receive paper “ribbons” for the practice meet for places 1-6. These will be filed in a box that will be located in the entry way of the pool and swimmers should be able to pick up their ribbons by the end of next week. We will have real ribbons for the other meets this summer and those include personal best ribbons, which are the most colorful and fanciest ribbons around.

Good luck to all the swimmers and thanks to all our volunteers and coaches!
