No Meet Marlins Info

Greetings No Meet Marlins!

I’ve received some questions about the No Meet option so wanted to share some information more broadly.  Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions.

NOW WE WANT TO DO MEETS BUT GET AN ERROR

We want you at our meets, so please don’t be shy about changing over! Our meets are very low key, swimmers of all levels, and really fun for kids. Since you signed up for No Meets, if you try to sign up for any meet, including the Practice Meet, you will get an error saying you don’t have an eligible swimmer. It is very easy to switch you over to a meet option at anytime, so please just send me an email, I’ll make the change, and then you are good to go!

CAN WE ONLY DO ONE MEET

No problem, we do not have a meet attendance requirement even if you sign up for the Meet option, so just the Practice Meet or any one dual meet is just fine. You will not be able to swim in our Champs meet unless you participate in 2 dual meets (the practice meet doesn’t count), but as long as you don’t want to do Champs, please join us even for just one meet.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

Since you are still part of the Marlins community and invited to all our social events, your family will still need to do one Spirit Job for the whole summer. Spirit jobs are usually things like helping out at a social event. You can contact Iliana Chen ([email protected]) to find the right job for your family. You do not need to do any Meet Jobs unless you switch over, then you would be expected volunteer at meets where you have a swimmer. If you only have Jr. Marlins you are exempt from all volunteer requirements, but if you have a Jr. Marlin and a Marlin, then you still volunteer.

T-SHIRTS, GOODIE BAGS, AWARDS

All No Meets swimmers who signed up before May 3rd will receive a free Marlins T-Shirt. These will be distributed at our first home dual meet on June 1st and we will try to arrange some distribution days at practices too. If this is your first year on the Marlins, your swimmers will also get a New Member Goodie Bag. These will be handed out at the Practice Meet and then likely put out in a container in the breezeway for you to pick up. All 10U No Meet swimmers will also get a participation medal at our Awards night on July 14th, so hope you can join us for that.

TEAM SUIT

If your swimmer is not doing meets, the the team suit is not required, but may make them feel more part of the team during practices. If you only do 1-2 meets, it’s fine if you don’t have the suit, so please don’t let that stop you from trying a meet.

WHY IS THERE A NO MEET GROUP

We have the no meet category because at the Champs Meet, when all teams in our league swim in one crazy meet, jobs are allocated based on how many swimmers on a team and the larger teams have more jobs. Before we had this category, we were allocated more jobs than we had swimmers in the Champs meet. With the No Meets option, we have a more accurate headcount of meet swimmers so that we will have a more reasonable job allotment at Champs.

Please let me know if you have any other questions and we will be hosting a second parent orientation meeting on May 31st @ 6 PM in the Clubhouse if you want to learn more.

Thanks,

Donna
