Last Week Events & Champs

Marlins,

Hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July and special thanks to everyone who supported the team by donating or buying baked goods - yum!

LAST WEEK OF PRACTICE

It's hard to believe our season is almost over, so just a reminder that this is the last week of practice and events, but we will go out with a flurry of fun. We have not finalized the details for our Fall Conditioning yet, but it will likely start Aug. 15 and run through Nov. 18th. Registration information will be emailed to all GMCA members when it opens, which will likely be late July. We are trying to hire new coaches since our current coaching staff will return to school, so please let us know if you have any leads.

EVENTS THIS WEEK (more details below)

  • Weds (7/6) @ 7-8 PM: CITs meet in Clubhouse to pack Champs goodie bags and eat pizza
  • Fri (7/8): Last day of Practice and Friday Morning Breakfast
  • Sat (7/9) @ 3-5 PM: Pep Rally in the Park. All are welcome even if not attending Champs.
  • Sat (7/9) @ 5-7 PM: CITs deliver Champs Goodie Bags - dress in your CIT shirts and/or anything green/silly.  Parents of 12U Champs swimmers listen for a knock on your door for your swimmers to receive their Champs goodies.
  • Sun (7/10) @ 7 AM-3 PM: Champs (please review info below carefully)
  • Sun (7/10) @ 6-8 PM: End of Year Party & Awards Night. All welcome even if did not attend champs. All swimmers 10 and under will receive participation medals and there will be other awards in different categories.

PEP RALLY: Saturday 3-5 PM in the Park

Join us in the Greenmeadow park on Saturday, 3-5pm, for cheers and fun as we head to our final meet - Champs! Everyone is welcome, even if not attending Champs. We will make good luck posters, sign cards for our coaches, face/body/hair paint for those interested, eat some light snacks, and throw pies at the coaches (swim-a-rama winners). Stop by anytime as we get fired up for Champs!

We are still looking for some volunteers to help with this event, so please sign up here if you are able to help.

CHAMPS: Sunday 7 AM - 3 PM Independence High School

Champs is a lot of fun, but it’s a big meet and can feel overwhelming. I encourage all of you to review the materials attached and linked carefully. It has information and maps related to our team location, parking, food options, where and when to meet for volunteer meetings, rules regarding set up and much more. Please plan on arriving no later than 7 AM for 7:25 AM Warm Ups. Champs is located at Independence High School in San Jose (617 N Jackson Ave, San Jose, CA 95133), which is about 25-30 min from Greenmeadow, so please factor in travel time.

If for any reason you or your swimmers cannot make it, please let Christine Hodson ([email protected]) know by Saturday AM. There are a lot of volunteers to manage and the sooner she can find replacements the better.

  • Parent packet here (lots of good information for families to understand the setup at the new facility, rules, maps). Only parent volunteers are allowed on the pool deck. Younger swimmers (esp. 6 & under) may be accompanied to the clerk of the course with a CIT. Parents should feel free to ask the CITS (wear their shirts!) for help getting their swimmers there.
  • Families should bring shade tents if they have them to share with our Marlin families. We will be sharing a space with Eichler and Saratoga Woods, so please review the map for our location and be respectful of the other teams in our area by not encroaching on their space.
  • Facility preview here (maps and photos)
  • Main map attached to this email
  • Warm Ups will be: 7:25 am- 8:00 am Dive blocks, Lanes 1-3, 3-point entry Lanes 11, 12
  • Programs will be for sale ($10 and will have all of the heat and lane number information inside)

END OF YEAR PARTY AWARDS: Sunday 6 - 8 PM Greenmeadow Park

Our end of the year party and awards night is for all swimmers and their families, not just those who attended Champs. All 10 and unders swimmers will receive a participation medal and there will be other special awards categories for each age group. We will provide pizza and dessert to all swimmers and their families. The pool opens up after the awards for a final splash as a team.

Please bring chairs, picnic blankets, and good cheer for the park and swim stuff for the pool part after the awards.

We are still looking for volunteers to help with this event, so please sign up here if you can help.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Donna
