Practice Meet Timeline and Info
All,
We are looking forward to the Practice Meet tomorrow and everyone should arrive by 8:15 AM. I’ve attached the athlete sheet (events/heats/lanes), a primer on how to read the athlete entries with a diagram of what to write on their arm, the current job sign ups, and a timer responsibility sheet for all timers to review. For the volunteer jobs, the first/second half switch is at Event 30 and the time of that can vary, so please listen for the announcement of second half workers instead of relying on the time on the sign up sheet. Below is a timeline and other info:
TIMELINE:
- 8:00: All meet & concession set up volunteers and concessions donations arrive.
- 8:00: Pool open for swimmers who want to warm up (informal warm up)
- 8:15: All swimmers, all first half volunteers, and all timers arrive
- 8:30: Volunteer job meetings to learn jobs for timers, clerks, Stroke & Turn
- 8:45: Team Cheer led by CITs
- 9:00: Meet starts with events from youngest to oldest in order of fly, back, breast, free, Medley Relays, IM (time permitting)
- Event 30 (9-10 Girls BR)(approx. 10:30 - 11:00): 1st Half Ends/2nd Half Starts
- 11:30 - 12:00: Meet should wrap up
- During Meet: Pick up your free swim team shirt. No need to rush the table in the morning, they will be available the whole meet. Write your name on the shirts!
- End of Meet: Free Ice Cream Social in the breezeway - Enjoy!
SWIMMERS: The athlete sheets are attached, which show swimmers’ events, heats, lanes. If you see #18 1/4 that is event #18, heat 1, and lane 4 (see attached primer). These numbers are written on the swimmers’ arms like this. The swimmers do not need to check in before the meet, but do line up at the “Clerk of the Course,” which are benches next to the shed, about 3 events before their event.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS: A big thanks to our volunteers! The volunteer sign ups are attached and please check in with Carmen Rodwell when you arrive at a table near the women’s bathroom. We will change from 1st half to second half volunteers at Event 30. We don’t know the exact time of this so listen for the announcement.
MEDLEY RELAYS: We will run relays, which in JSSL must be mixed gender for each age group. Relay order is Back, Breast, Fly, Free. The coaches decide the relays at the meet. Relay entries are not on the athlete sheets, so please do not assume your child is not in a relay and leave.
CONCESSIONS: We will have concessions, which will include coffee, fruit, bagels, donuts, baked goods, and more. Please bring cash or card to enjoy.
APP: Download the SwimTopia app, which will have your swimmer’s events/heats/lanes, results, and your volunteer jobs for meets. The paid version will have results for the whole team and the free version will have your swimmer’s results.
NEW MEMBER GOODIE BAGS: If this is your first summer on the Marlins for all or some of your family, we have a welcome gift bag for you that will be at our t-shirt pick up table with your name on it. The people helping to pass out the t-shirts will be able to help get yours for you.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Marlins team swimsuit
- Marlins Team Shirts will be handed out at the meet (write your name on it)
- Googles (and an extra pair if you have them)
- Swim cap: our 2022 caps will not arrive in time for the Practice meet, but we should have them for the June 4th Meet.
- Towels (On warm days, 1-2 towels per swimmer is sufficient. If it's cold then 3-4 towels.) Mark your towels with your name.
- Sharpie to write heats/lanes on your swimmer's arm and names on shirts
- Sunscreen
- Cash or card for concessions
- Blankets or chairs for sitting on grass
- Sweatshirt, sweatpants
- Shade tents/umbrellas, hats, sunglasses
- A good attitude and some team spirit!
RIBBONS: Swimmers will receive paper “ribbons” for the practice meet for places 1-6. These will be filed in a box that will be located in the entry way of the pool and swimmers should be able to pick up their ribbons by the end of next week. We will have real ribbons for the other meets this summer.
Good luck to all the swimmers and thanks to all our volunteers and coaches!
Donna
