Practice Meet Deadline next Weds 5PM
All,
Just a reminder that it’s time to sign up for our Practice Meet, which will be on May 21st starting at 9 AM and will probably end between 11 AM - 12 PM. The deadline to sign up is May 18th before 5PM sharp (it will close automatically at 5). Please be prepared to arrive by 8:30 AM so that you and your swimmers are ready. This is a great opportunity for kids and parents to practice and get a preview of meets and jobs before our dual meets begin. We will have an ice cream social immediately after the meet, so please stay to enjoy and mingle with the team.
T-SHIRTS & CAPS: The shirts have arrived and will be handed out at the meet. If the personalized caps arrive in time, we will hand those out at the meet too. If you didn’t order a personalized cap, you can purchase a blank cap at the meet. If you can't make the meet, we will share other times to pick them up after the meet, but please do not ask the coaches for them during practice.
WHO SWIMS: The practice meet, and all of our meets (including Champs), are open to Marlins and Jr. Marlins. Jr. Marlins are welcome to all social events too, so please assume Jr. Marlins are included when you see things addressed to Marlins.
WHAT TO SWIM: At the practice meet you can swim all strokes and 9+ swimmers may also do the IM after the relays. At dual meets, swimmers are limited to 3 strokes. You and your swimmers (not the coaches) decide what to swim for the individual events. There is no requirement to sign up for all strokes (just freestyle is fine for Jr. Marlins), but we encourage as many events as possible since this will give baseline times for the dual meets. The coaches will determine who is on the relays, which are finalized at the meet right before the relays since it depends on who shows up and how they swim on the day.
HOW TO SIGN UP: When meets open, you can sign up on the upper right side of our website. For this meet you can sign up here and there are more detailed instructions below regarding sign ups. Please do not forget to hit “save.” The deadline to sign up for meets is Weds. before 5:00 PM (May 18th for this meet). Sign ups close automatically at this time, so please do not delay.
VOLUNTEERS: If you have swimmers in the meet, you are expected to volunteer, which a great way to meet parents and swimmers. If you have 1 swimmer sign up for 1 job and 2+ swimmers please sign up for 2 jobs. Please sign up for jobs here by May 18th at 5:00 PM. If you only have Jr. Marlins, you are exempt, but if you have a mix of Jr. Marlins and Marlins, you are expected to volunteer.
For most of the jobs, we will provide all the instructions you need at the meet. If a job does need prior training (e.g. stroke & turn) that will be indicated in the job sign ups. There are some jobs that are good for first time families with younger swimmers like bringing food/coffee for concessions, meet set up, and meet tear down since these allow you to focus on your swimmers during the meet.
You can find descriptions of the jobs here and you can email Christine Hodson ([email protected]) with any questions about the jobs or what will work best for your family.
NEW PARENT MEET MEETING (5/19): We will be holding a pre-meet preview for all new parents on Thur. May 19th at 5:15 PM. We will talk through meet basics and answer all your questions regarding jobs, events, and general info.
WARM UPS: The pool will be open from 8:15 on for informal warm ups, we have more formal warm ups at our dual meets.
MORE INFO ON WEBSITE: Our website is full of other meet related information under the meet tab, where you can always find: sign up instructions, Meet FAQs, Meet job descriptions, What to Bring to Meets, and much more!
