Donuts/Pizza Th/Fri & Fall Conditioning Preview

Marlins,

Our last practice for our summer season will be this Friday, July 30th. Thank you all for a great season, especially to coaches Tjasa, Caleb, and Malia and all our incredible volunteers.

DONUTS AND PIZZA  AFTER PRACTICE (Thurs. and Fri)

We will celebrate the last days of practice with donuts after the morning practices on Friday and pizza after the evening practices on Thursday and Friday.  This is for the swimmers, not full families, and no RSVP is necessary.

OFF SEASON COACH: ALANA EZRRE

We are excited to announce that we have found an amazing coach for our Off-Season Conditioning program! Many of you may already be familiar with Alana Ezrre who is our current aquatics program coordinator. You may not know that prior to joining Greenmeadow she was a swim instructor and coach for many years, so we will be putting that experience to good use. Please see below for her impressive full bio and please join me in welcoming Alana to the Marlins!

FALL CONDITIONING PREVIEW (REG. WILL OPEN BY END NEXT WEEK)

Our Fall Conditioning will start on Aug. 16th and run through Nov. 20th. The registration is still being finalized, but will be sent to all GMCA members by the end of next week. We will be offering two practice groups per week for each of the Jr. Marlins (beginning 8 & Unders), advanced 8 & Unders, 9-12, and 13+. The Jr. Marlins will meet two times per week and the other groups will meet three times. Jr. Marlins will be in a smaller group setting, so the kids will receive more stroke instruction. We will not have assigned lanes, but will be asking people to select practice groups to keep practices at lower capacity than having everyone at the same time. If the county imposes stricter restrictions, then we will need to modify capacity to comply, but we are hoping that won’t be the case. The current draft of the practice groups is below, but these may change slightly based on sign-ups.

Costs for the 14 week Fall Conditioning program will likely be as follows:

  • Jr. Marlin/8U: $240
  • 9-12: $270
  • 13+: $300

ALANA FULL BIO

Past swimming: Alana learned how to swim at the age of 3 at Santa Clara Swim Club. When she was 7 years old she moved to the competitive team and participated in competitions, until she was 16 years old, when she began teaching swim lessons.

During high school, Alana competed on her varsity team Freshman to Junior year, competing primarily in 100 Fly, 200 IM, and the 200 Medley Relay swimming Fly.

Coaching experience: In 2014, Alana started working in the Learn to Swim program at Santa Clara Swim Club (SCSC) at the age of 16 as an instructor for all ages and as a deck supervisor. She also enjoyed working with the special abilities program at Santa Clara.

In 2017, she began as a developmental coach, and in September 2018, moved up to coach the competitive groups ranging ages from 10 and unders all the way to high schoolers. For 3 years Alana was the lead coach in one of three competitive 10 and under groups at SCSC. During that time she also assisted 11/12, Pre-senior and Senior groups.

Personal Facts of Interest: Alana has 2 dogs, Paco and Kacey. She has been dancing for 10+ years, primarily jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and ballet. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach.

Goals for Swimmers: I want to make a positive impact in children's lives. My goal is that when my swimmers walk away from the pool deck, they can take the skills and mindset that they have learned and apply it to the world outside of swimming.

Thanks again for a great summer and hope to see you all in the fall!
