Coach Update 6/27
Hey, Marlins!
Great job this past week at practices and at the meet this past weekend!!! Brookside has always been a tough competitor, and we see that in the results from this past meet-- Greenmeadow at 160 points, Brookside at 309 points. Nevertheless, I’m super proud of this team and of all the kids for working hard, showing up, and racing well!! We had an awesome meet; we had a record low number of DQs, and a huge number of personal bests! That’s a win! Great work, Marlins! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the meet as fun as it was, and thank you to the CITs who stuck around for the 10U session; you guys were invaluable in putting together the relays, and I just know that our little swimmers really loved having you around! Thanks, all!! I am attaching the meet results below.
Week in Review:
Day 1 was spent on backstroke work, Day 2 on butterfly, and Day 3 we spent on race details (starts, turns, finishes, sprints). It was a lot of fun and the swimmers worked hard!
Swimmer of the Week:
Name: Theo Purcell
Age: 8
Favorite Stroke: freestyle
Favorite thing about swimming: “I get to go into the pool and I get to have fun.”
Favorite vacation: Duck, North Carolina
Favorite food: “This is gonna be the hardest question… I’ll just say ice cream.”
“Theo is such a fun, friendly presence in the pool. He has made friends with everyone around him! He practices in one of our giant 8U groups, so things sometimes become a bit hectic and out-of-control. There have been several times when I’ve been explaining a drill or a workout and have seen Theo politely gesture to his teammates to listen. I am constantly impressed with how willing he is to slow himself down to make sure he gets the drills right, and to make sure he implements technique corrections to his stroke. Not many swimmers are willing to do that, especially in crowded lanes! But that’s Theo-- he’s mature and holds himself accountable for his swimming. He takes practice time seriously, but also knows how to lighten the mood for his team. You rock, Theo!! Great, great job, I am so proud of you!” -Coach Tjasa
