Coach Update 6/13

Hey, Marlins!

GREAT JOB at the meet this weekend! Results are attached to the bottom of this email. The final score of our virtual meet was 201 points for Cupertino Hills and 249 points for the Greenmeadow Marlins. Way to go, Marlins, on the win! I’m very proud of this team! Thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard in the week leading up to the meet, the day of the meet, and in the aftermath of the meet. <3

Parent Reminders:

Our swim-a-rama is happening at the end of this week (on either Friday or Saturday depending on your practice schedule)!! Please donate what you can and share the fundraising page: https://my.cheddarup.com/c/marlins-swim-a-rama ! Help us get to our fundraising goal of $5,000! There are a bunch of fun prizes (...I hear that one of them might be throwing a whipped cream pie into the coaches’ faces… uh oh! :). The flier is attached to the bottom of this note!

We are also having a pancake breakfast hosted by Marlins’ parent and pancake chef extraordinaire, Angela Sherry! The breakfast will be this Saturday, June 19th from 9 am-11 am in the park. Please purchase your ticket at https://greenmeadow.swimtopia.com/shop/84514 .

A note on IMs (individual medleys) at our meets: I have been getting a lot of questions about these, and, as is evident from our results sheet, there were many scratches in this event throughout all the age groups. Many swimmers signed up to race in 3 strokes, a relay, and an IM. That’s a lot of racing! Because there is the potential to earn points for our team in every event EXCEPT for the IMs, higher priority is placed on the stroke races and on relays. However, the IM is a lot of fun, and gives your swimmer some good racing experience. If you have a younger swimmer (10U), and are not sure if signing up for the IM is the right thing, please reach out to me and we can talk about which events would be best for your swimmer! The IMs should be something fun and extra, not stressful. :)

Week in Review:

We spent our first week of practices dedicating the first day to freestyle/backstroke, the second day to breaststroke, and the third day to butterfly/race details work. It was a lot of good hard work, and the swimmers really shone all throughout. Thanks, everyone!
