Meet Reopened Until 5 Tomorrow

Marlins,

We are all getting excited about the Practice Meet this Saturday. Our meets close for entries at 5:00 pm the Wednesday before the meet. However, I have heard from several swimmers who would still like to sign up, so we are treating it as a practice sign up too!  The meet has been reopened and will stay open until 5:00 pm tomorrow (6/3). Please take a moment before then to sign up. Swimmers may sign up for all events in their age group: fly, back, breast, free and IM. If you’d like to revise any event entries, please do that by 5:00 pm tomorrow as well.

We have also opened the next meet on June 12th, so please feel free to sign up for that one too. The sign ups are on our website and here.

Lots more Practice Meet information below regarding the timeline, volunteering, heats/lanes, what to bring, masks, and ribbons, but do let me know if you have any questions.

HEATS/LANES

On Friday, we will circulate the athlete sheets, which will show your swimmers events, heats, lanes. These numbers are written on the swimmers’ arms like this. There will be plenty of people who can help you read the sheets at the meet and samples will be posted.

VOLUNTEERS

A big thanks to our volunteers! We will circulate the list of jobs on Friday and you can always look up your assignments on the Swimtopia app or look at your account on the website. All volunteers should check in with Christine Hodson. She will be at a table likely behind the starter/near the women’s bathroom.

Timers, please review this overview of timer responsibilities (also attached).

NO CONCESSIONS

Usually the concession stand is a big highlight of the meets (thanks Nagayamas!), but sadly, we are not having concessions this season. Please remember to get your coffee before you arrive and bring your own snacks and drinks.

MASKS REQUIRED

Masks are required for everyone inside the pool area, regardless of vaccination status, including all swimmers, volunteers, coaches, and spectators.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Marlins team swimsuit if you have one (not required this year)
  • Googles (and an extra pair if you have them)
  • Marlins swim cap
    • Our caps should arrive on Friday so we will be passing out the pre-ordered personalized caps at the meet and blank caps will be available for $15.
  • Towels (On warm days, 1-2 towels per swimmer is sufficient. When it is cold or overcast, you may want to bring extra towels.) Mark your towels with your name.
  • Sweatshirt, sweatpants
  • Sunscreen
  • Food and drinks since concessions will not be available
  • Sharpie pen (to write swimmer’s event/heat/lane assignments on arm)
  • Blankets or chairs for sitting on grass
  • Shade tents/umbrellas, hats, sunglasses
  • A good attitude and some team spirit!

RIBBONS

Swimmers will receive paper “ribbons” for the practice meet for places 1-6. These will be filed in a box by swimmer name, which will be located in the entry way of the pool. Swimmers should be able to pick up their ribbons by the end of next week. We will have real ribbons for the other meets this summer.

Good luck to all the swimmers and thanks to all our volunteers! Please let me know if anyone has any questions.
