Coach Update 5/29 + NO PRACTICE MONDAY
Hello, Spring Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
Thanks for a great week of practice!!! There is no practice on Memorial Day (Monday 5/31).
Week in Review:
Some tough sets this past week! Started off with some higher yardage lateral axis (backstroke, freestyle) work, moved into a swimathon-inspired freestyle workout and some underwater dolphin kick challenge sets, then finished off the week with a super tiring butterfly set! The kids did awesome, it was a ton of fun!
QOTD DAY 1: “You’re off to great places, today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so get on
your way.” -Dr. Seuss
QOTD DAY 2: “You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” -A.A. Milne
Parent Reminders:

No practice Monday!!
Swimmer of the Week:
Name: Liani Ragade
Age: 11, turning 12 soon! (same birthday as Coach Tjasa!)
Favorite Stroke: “Probably either freestyle, breaststroke, or butterfly. I like backstroke, too, but it’s not my favorite.”
Favorite thing about swimming: “being in the water. The water is just so calm, peaceful, refreshing. It’s a nice feeling that you’ve tried your best even if you didn’t get the time you wanted.”
Favorite vacation: “Iceland! I would love to go to Greece, go to the beaches and eat the food!”
Favorite food: “I’m not really sure… I think pasta. Or pizza. Definitely pizza! Pizza and pasta.”
“It is no surprise to anyone who knows Liani that she would be selected as this week’s swimmer of the week. Coach Malia and I have been waiting since the Fall Conditioning season to give this award to Liani. She is the type of kid you can always count on! Every practice, every week, unfailingly, Liani works SO hard. It’s astonishing to see what she’s capable of, as well as how much she enjoys the hard work of swimming. I really admire that quality in her! As you can tell from her answers, Liani is mature, thoughtful, and friendly. She makes friends with her teammates, and steps up when the team needs her. Don’t mistake Liani’s quiet demeanor during practice for shyness; that’s just her extreme focus on the task in front of her. Seeing Liani’s face when she heard her name announced as swimmer of the week was very touching for Coach Malia and I; here’s someone who consistently rises to the challenge without hope for prize or for praise, finally getting her just due. Liani, you are inspiring! I am very proud to be your coach which gives me the opportunity to get to know you as a swimmer and as a person.” -Coach Tjasa
