Coach Update 5/9
Hello, Spring Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
Happy Mother’s Day! Thanks for a great week of practices!!!
Week in Review:
This was a big butterfly week for the whole team (the 8U had a little bit of breaststroke sprinkled in, too!). We worked on underwaters, dolphin kick, stamina and endurance, and played a ton of fun games dealing with both underwaters and reaction time. We had a blast!
Parent Reminders:
Parents: please do not contact the coaches via text and/or call on their personal cell phones. We love to communicate with our swimmers and their families, but ask that you do so via email or by leaving a message with the lifeguards through the GMCA office phone. If you are unsure of the coaches’ email addresses, they are listed at the bottom of every Coach Update (including this one!). Thank you in advance. :)
ALSO: If you are interested in joining our summer program, registration for the summer Marlins swim team is now open on our swimtopia website!
Swimmer of the Week:
Name: Izzy Shomair
Age: 8
Favorite Stroke: Breaststroke
Favorite thing about swimming: “I don’t know. I think it’s swimming with my teammates and friends.”
Favorite vacation: Canada; “Our cottage in Muskoka!”
Favorite food: “I think sushi.”
“Izzy is so impressive!! All our groups concentrated heavily on butterfly in the past week-- many were not happy with that, ha! There was a lot of hard work and accomplishment, but almost always accompanied by complaining, groaning, all the usual sounds that often go hand-in-hand with a tough butterfly workout! But not from Izzy. In Izzy’s 8U group he was one of the only swimmers who really dedicated himself to his butterfly and who made sure that every stroke was better than the one before it. He didn’t let his tiredness and fatigue hold him back! Izzy understands that feeling tired during a workout is an accomplishment; it’s a feeling you earn when you work hard and achieve something great. It’s a badge of honor! Great job this week, Izzy! I’m so proud of you and your hard work!” -Coach Tjasa
