Coach Update 4/25
Hello, Spring Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
Thanks for a great week of practices!!
Week in Review:
The 8U, 9-12, and 13+ worked on butterfly, dolphin kick, freestyle breath control/staying smooth+long, and ended the week with a fun, but challenging set of workout/dryland 25s! The junior marlins also had their first practices this morning-- working on freestyle and backstroke! It was a lot of fun :) Here are our quotes of the day from the past week:
QOTD day 1: “Oh yes, the past can hurt. But, you can either run from it or learn from it.”
– Rafiki, The Lion King
QOTD day 2: “You control your destiny. You don’t need magic to do it. There are no magical shortcuts to solve your problems.”
– Princess Merida, Brave
QOTD day 3: “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and – SNAP – the job’s a game!”
– Mary Poppins
Swimmer of the Week:
Name: Dhruv Kondekar
Age: 10
Favorite Stroke: Breast
Favorite thing about swimming: “uhhh… swimming!”
Favorite vacation: going to Florida on a cruise
Favorite food: Chinese food
“It has been SO wonderful getting to know Dhruv these past few weeks. He is kind, enthusiastic, hard-working, and he truly loves to swim! I’ve been so impressed with his swimming, particularly with his curiosity and genuine interest in improving his stroke, but more than that: I have been impressed by his friendliness, and his natural ability to bring teammates together. It’s hard to feel connected to everyone on the team in our new doubled-up lane format (the coaches are also struggling with it!), but Dhruv does something that I haven’t seen many swimmers do: he tells his teammates “good job” or “you did a great job.” He doesn’t say it loudly, but we notice how the swimmers around him feel more comfortable and confident at swim practice knowing they have a teammate like Dhruv cheering them on. Great job, Dhruv! Coach Malia and I are proud of you!” -Coach Tjasa
Lane Assignments:
Here is an updated version of the lane assignments for this season.
Bonus Content:
Greenmeadow parents and volunteers, Mari Ueda-Tao and Barry Tao, put together this AWESOME word cloud based off of the words we came up with last week on our first-day-of-practice whiteboard activity in answer to the questions: what do we want our team to be ? and How are we as individuals going to make it that way ?
We hope to print this as a big poster to put up in the pool area as a reminder of our team values!
