Lane Assignments for Spring 2021

Hello Spring Conditioning families!

I hope you’re all doing well!

We are really looking forward to getting back on the pool deck with our swimmers! Here are our lane assignments for the upcoming season:

A PDF version of this document will also be attached to the bottom of this note, and will be posted on greenmeadow.swimtopia.org . Please note that while the groups themselves will stay the same, as we get to know everyone’s swim abilities the coaching staff may decide to switch around the lanes within the groups so as to create a more cohesive practice environment.

Please stay tuned for more information regarding practice organization in the forthcoming first Coach Update of the season (will be sent out over the weekend). It will contain pertinent information for all swimmers, whether you’ve swam with us before or this is your first time. A few things to note:

  • Not everyone who registered was able to get a spot. Please remember that lane assignments were doled out first come, first serve in terms of registration order.
  • Opting out of sharing a lane did not decrease anyone’s chances of getting a spot on the team. However, if your family was open to sharing a lane, it did become easier to find spots for you, especially for those who were late to registration. If you opted out of sharing a lane and didn’t get a spot on the team, it is because our registration filled up before we could fit you into an individual/unshared lane.
  • If you did not opt out of sharing a lane, and still didn’t get a spot, it could be because of a few things. The first: many 8U will not be doubled up as a water-safety precaution. Our coaches are only doubling up 8U lanes with swimmers who we are sure know all four strokes, can swim at least one whole lap of each, and with whose strokes we are already familiar. If you have an 8U swimmer who did not get a spot, it’s probably because (1) registration had already filled up before you registered your swimmer and (2) you opted out of sharing a lane, OR (1) registration had already filled up before you registered your swimmer and (2) in terms of swim skill level, your swimmer is not yet ready to double up in the lane (see qualifications in bold above).
  • If your 8U swimmer did not get a spot, never fear! Another good alternative to swim team (especially if your swimmer is working up to learn all four strokes and become comfortable enough to swim a whole lap of each) are GMCA swim lessons! Contact Pool Manager Caleb Fenner, [email protected] for information about swim lessons. If at some point in the season, your swimmer is able to swim a whole lap of each stroke, contact Coach Tjasa Kmetec ([email protected]) for a try-out, and hopefully we will be able to add your swimmer to a (shared) lane!

I understand this is very confusing (Believe me, it was confusing and difficult to try to fit it all together into the lane assignments!!). But please remember that our coaches want to fit as many people on the team as possible; we tried our best to accommodate everyone, but there will be some disappointment (I promise, it’s felt by us, too). Please, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
