Coach Update 6 3/14/2021

Hello, Winter Conditioning Swimmers and Families!

Thanks for a great week!

Week in Review:

The 8U worked on their flipturns +freestyle sprints, had a challenge vertical kicking set, then a challenge IM set. The 9-12 and 13+ had a team challenge set which encouraged them to use their flipturns, at least three underwater kicks in streamline, and headdown breakouts while swimming freestyle. They also had some flipturn work, and an IM set. Here are our quotes of the day for the past week! :

QOTD DAY 1: “Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying I will try again tomorrow.” -Mary Anne Radmacher

QOTD DAY 2: “Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries.” -James A. Michener

QOTD DAY 3: “But in the end it's only a passing thing, this shadow; even darkness must pass.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Parent Reminders:

Don’t forget to sign your swimmers up for our upcoming March 20th time trials! It will be a great, low-stakes way for your swimmers to show off all their hard work! You can sign up here.

Swimmer of the Week:

Name: Eve Kaleba

Age: 10

Favorite Stroke: Butterfly

Favorite thing about swimming: “Butterfly! Also, the teammates.”

Favorite vacation: Bear Valley

Favorite food: fried chicken!

“Eve has deserved swimmer of the week for a LONG time now. She is only 10 years old, on the younger side of the swimmers in her group, but she is so mature and responsible, her coaches often think of her as one of the older swimmers! Oftentimes, Eve’s lane is on the opposite side of the pool from where the coaches stand. That doesn’t stop her from being engaged with the set, communicating with the coaches, and encouraging her teammates. Eve, your coaches have to apologize to you! You are so reliable, so diligent, so much fun to be around; we took you for granted! You are the type of athlete who pursues excellence, even if it is without recognition. Good for you! But it’s for that reason that you are our only swimmer of the week this week. You deserve all the recognition! I’m so proud of you! Great, great job, Eve.” -Coach Tjasa
