Coach Update 3/6
Hello, Winter Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
Thanks for a great week!
Week in Review:
All three groups started the week with some backstroke/freestyle lateral axis work, then moved into a breaststroke day, ending with butterfly work on our third day. The 9-12 and the 13+ also worked on IM transitions, open turns, and pull downs. Here are our quotes of the day for the past week! :
QOTD DAY 1: Do, or do not. There is no “try”. – Yoda, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
QOTD DAY 2: It is not our abilities that show what we truly are… it is our choices. – Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
QOTD DAY 3: All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. – Gandalf, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Parent Reminders:
Don’t forget to sign your swimmers up for our upcoming March 20th time trials! It will be a great, low-stakes way for your swimmers to show off all their hard work! You can sign up here.
Swimmers of the Week:
Name: Sadie Fredericson
Age: 6
Favorite Stroke: “doggy paddle! Also breaststroke!”
Favorite thing about swimming: “It’s fun!”
Favorite vacation: Hawaii
Favorite food: “Spaghetti and tomato sauce. That’s always been my favorite food ever since I was three years old!”
“Sadie is a swimmer I can always rely on to bring her positive attitude to swim practice. She always greets her coaches and teammates with a big smile and fun stories from her day. Her positive attitude carries into her work ethic as a swimmer-- always giving her all to every drill and workout no matter how hard! I’ve especially appreciated how hard Sadie has worked on her listening ears the last few practices!! I love coaching Sadie and look forward to seeing her grow as a swimmer!!” -Coach Malia
Name: Oscar Germanow
Age: 16
Favorite stroke: butterfly
Favorite thing about swimming: “The team connection, being able to meet people, it’s like a big family.”
Favorite vacation: Park City, Utah
Favorite food: “Oh boy...chocolate chip cookies.”
“We talked a bit in the groups this week about taking advantage of our time together in the pool at each practice. Even before this conversation, Oscar has consistently made the most of his practice time; he is curious, inquisitive, passionate, and excited about swimming. He is very cerebral in his swimming-- asking questions about his stroke technique, really dedicating himself to making sure each lap is better than the one before it. More than that, though, Oscar is friendly and kind! He is a huge part of the fun and happy atmosphere of his practice group, we are so lucky to have him! Great job, Oscar!” -Coach Tjasa
