Coach Update 2/27
Hello, Winter Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
Thanks for a great week everyone!
Week in Review:
All three groups worked on their freestyle technique (particularly their length in their reach and while finishing their stroke), kicks (we did a lot of vertical kicking and whistle kick challenge sets) and some tough butterfly sets. Here are our quotes of the day for the past week! :
QOTD DAY 1: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent” -The Princess Diaries
QOTD DAY 2: "Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want."-10 Things I Hate About You
QOTD DAY 3: “Don’t be sorry, be fierce!” -RuPaul from RuPaul’s Drag Race
Swimmers of the Week:
Name: Mila McCulloch
Age: 8
Favorite Stroke: breaststroke
Favorite thing about swimming: exercising!
Favorite vacation: Lake Tahoe
Favorite food: “Oh my goodness! Um… sushi!”
“Mila really earned her swimmer of the week title. In the beginning of the week she built up her courage to ask me what it takes to be swimmer of the week, what followed was a mature conversation where we set goals and talked about expectations. The rest of the week was marked by Mila’s continued dedication, diligence, and hard work to achieve her goal. She took initiative and stood up for herself-- acts of true leadership! I was so impressed! I hope our other swimmers learn from Mila and her focus! And, of course, Mila has always brought her big smile and her friendly sense of humor to practices. GREAT job, Mila! You earned this!! Your coaches are so, so proud of you!” -Coach Tjasa
Name: Paloma Bracho
Age: 10
Favorite stroke: breaststroke
Favorite thing about swimming: “Well I can’t choose everything! I really just like to get in the pool and work.”
Favorite vacation: “I like to go to Hawaii.”
Favorite food: “Jajangmyeon! It’s Korean food.”
“It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Paloma is one of our swimmers of the week-- in fact it’s surprising that it took this long for her to finally get the recognition she deserves!! Paloma is one of those people you can rely on at every practice, anytime, rain or shine or wind or cold or heat. It’s worth noting that she is the only swimmer who helps clean up kickboards and pull buoys after practice!! Paloma is friendly, kind, considerate, and passionate. She is a JOY to coach, and a truly lovely person to know! Thank you, Paloma, for your thoughtfulness! I’m very proud of your hard work in the pool, but more importantly, that Greenmeadow is fortunate enough to have someone like you represent our team!” -Coach Tjasa
