Coach Update 2/13

Hello, Winter Conditioning Swimmers and Families!

We had an AMAZING first week of practices! Thanks to all the swimmers for showing up and working hard!

Parent Reminders:

We WILL be having practice Monday, February 15th (Presidents’ Day)-- see you then!

Week in Review:

All three groups started the week with some backstroke and freestyle (lateral axis) work, then moved into some IM work, specifically IM kick sprints on the second day. Day three was a challenge day, with some higher yardage, fast-paced freestyle work. Here are our quotes of the day for the past week:

QOTD DAY 1: “Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement.”

– Matt Biondi

QOTD day 2: “The hardest skill to acquire in this sport is the one where you compete all out, give it all you have, and you are still getting beat no matter what you do. When you have the killer instinct to fight through that, it is very special.”

– Eddie Reese

QOTD day 3: “Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you.”

– Arnold Palmer

Swimmers of the Week:

Name: Finnleigh McCannell

Age: 12

Favorite Stroke: freestyle

Favorite thing about swimming: “I like being in the water with my team.”

Favorite vacation: Maui

Favorite food: “I don’t have one. I like anything with as much sugar as my mom would disapprove of.”

“Finnleigh is one of the most consistently hard workers on our team. She is friendly, diligent, and, no matter what, always has a positive attitude. She is one of those swimmers I can rely on to take practice seriously, to implement stroke advice into her technique, and to lift up others around her. She doesn’t take our time in the pool for granted, and really takes it to heart when the group hasn’t had a good day. To paraphrase one of our quotes of the day from a few weeks ago, one person cannot make a team-- but if anyone can, it’s Finnleigh! Thank you, Finnleigh, and great job! Coach Malia and I are very proud of you and of all your hard work!” -Coach Tjasa

Name: Aaron Kuusela

Age: 5

Favorite thing about swimming: “doing freestyle!”

Favorite vacation: Mexico

Favorite food: Macaroni

“Aaron is one of our most enthusiastic and energetic swimmers! He comes to practice every single day and he comes early (even on the super rainy, cold days)! In everything we do, whether it be long laps of kicking, learning freestyle, playing games like sneaky statues, red light green light, or Greenmeadow team “tea”, Aaron brings an excitement that influences his teammates (and his coaches!). It makes me really happy to see a swimmer who simply loves to swim, and doesn’t take pooltime for granted. His big smile brightens my day! Great job, Aaron! I am so proud of you!” -Coach Tjasa
