Coach Update 1/17/2021
Hello, Winter Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
Hope all are doing well!
Week in Review:
The 8U, 9-12, and 13+ worked on their flipturns, open turns, breakouts, and IM transitions this week. The 8U worked on sprints, and played a few good games of sneaky statues! The 9-12 and 13+ had pace work, while the 13+ ended the week with a mock meet!
Swimmers of the Week:
Every week the coaches choose 2-3 swimmers who really went above and beyond in their practices in the past week to be recognized as the swimmers of that week. Without further ado, here are this week’s Swimmers of the Week!
Name: Eloise Kostal
Age: 8
Favorite stroke: Butterfly
Favorite thing about swimming: “To be with all my friends and my coaches.”
Favorite vacation: Lake Tahoe
Favorite food: “Spaghetti Carbonara!”
“Eloise has always been a very strong candidate for swimmer of the week, although this week I especially noticed her hard work during practice and ability to not let others distract her. It can be easy to get distracted and lose sight of why we’re at practice when other teammates aren’t taking it as seriously, but Eloise has impressed me immensely by still staying focussed and really utilizing her positive attitude and listening ears during practice! Eloise brings such a great energy to our practices and I’m excited to continue to watch her work hard and improve! Go Eloise!!” -Coach Malia
Name: Max Pinnell
Age: 11
Favorite stroke: Breaststroke
Favorite thing about swimming: “I like anything where we don’t have to stop; 100s, 50s.”
Favorite vacation: Skiing in France or Lake Tahoe
Favorite food: Japanese food or pizza
“Max has always been a hard worker, and an excited, passionate swimmer. What really impresses me about Max is that he takes responsibility for his team, and for the quality of practice time. When morale was lagging at a particular practice, Max stepped into a leadership role and roused the spirits of his teammates (and coaches). He is usually a quiet, diligent presence in our practices, but when he felt the team’s need for excitement and energy, he stepped up. I’m grateful for you, and proud of you, Max! Thank you for being a leader!” -Coach Tjasa
