Coach Update 1/9/2021
Hello, Winter Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
Hope all are doing well!
Week in Review:
The 8U were introduced to underwater streamline dolphin kicks this week! They practiced using this skill in freestyle sprints, as well as doing a hard IM workout. The 9-12 worked on butterfly technique and body dolphin, underwater dolphin kicks, as well as completing a hard IM set of their own! The 13+ also worked on underwater dolphin kicks and IM transitions, as well as some pace work.
Swimmers of the Week:
Every week the coaches choose 2-3 swimmers who really went above and beyond in their practices in the past week to be recognized as the swimmers of that week. Without further ado, here are this week’s Swimmers of the Week!
Name: Cat Thurman
Age: 7
Favorite stroke: Butterfly
Favorite thing about swimming: “That it’s in water.”
Favorite vacation: “Hawaii, though I’ve only been there once when I was a baby. It’s my dream vacation!”
Favorite food: “It depends what meal.” Breakfast: “Pancakes!” Lunch: “Spaghetti!” Dinner: “Beef Bulgogi!” Dessert: “Ice cream! And maybe some ice cream cake, too. And for snack, grapes!”
“Not only is Cat hardworking, dedicated, and diligent in her swimming, she’s also an incredible teammate! She makes practice fun, light-hearted, and silly. I often hear her tell her teammates before a hard set, “Don’t worry, we can do it.” She takes responsibility for her swimming, and is very mature in the way she continually challenges herself, but she never loses sight of what’s most important: her excitement, passion, and joy for the sport of swimming. Cat is truly a ray of sunshine in our workouts, I’m so glad I get to work with her and see her smiling face at practice!” -Coach Tjasa
Name: Lilliana Schoell
Age: 7
Favorite stroke: Breaststroke
Favorite thing about swimming: “I like swimming breaststroke.”
Favorite vacation: Austria
Favorite food: Pasta!
“Lilliana has been a consistently strong candidate for swimmer of the week for a long time. Through her strong work ethic during workouts, always uplifting her teammates, and being the loudest cheerer during fun jump, her love for swimming and swim team is clear! She is such a positive presence to our practices and we are so excited to continue to watch Lilliana improve and grow!” -Coach Malia
