Coach Update 11/22
Hello, Fall Conditioning Swimmers and Families!
This is our final Coach Update of the Fall Conditioning season! Thank you to everyone-- parents, swimmers, Coach Malia, Coach Caleb, volunteers-- for making this season so special, in spite of the difficulties we are all facing in light of the pandemic. Coaching has been a bright spot in my day, I hope the swimmers found the fun in their workouts and were able to connect with their teammates. :)
Week in Review:
8U did IM work for 2 out of the 3 practices, preparing their strokes for the time trials, then on our last day we played games for our whole practice time, just enjoying our last day together for a couple of weeks. 9-12 and 13+ also prepared their strokes for time trials with IM work and sprint sets, but then also played games on the last day as a fun farewell to the season. At the last practice, every group learned and practiced the Greenmeadow cheer, and we ended their practice sessions with our loudest cheers. Thank you, swimmers, for your effort, your passion, your curiosity! Your coaches love you!
We also had a time trial just yesterday, on the 21st. The results of this super fun event are attached at the bottom of this note. I would like to point out, once again, the incredible number of personal bests, especially among the 8U. Every single 8U got a best time in butterfly! Every single one! Wow, great job, little ones! We’re so proud of all of you!
Swimmer of the Season
Seeing as it is the end of our fall conditioning season, the coaches decided to award a special Swimmer of the Season award to a swimmer who has consistently brought their A-game to practices and events. Without further ado, the Greenmeadow Fall Conditioning 2020 Swimmer of the Season is…
Name: Niko Elmieh
Age: 6
Favorite Stroke: Freestyle
Favorite Thing about Swimming: “To be with my team.”
Favorite Vacation: Going to the Czech Republic
Favorite food: Clam Chowder
Favorite Memory from the Season: Swimming!
“There are many, many incredible athletes, swimmers, and people on the team. What makes Niko stand out is his fearlessness. As the youngest swimmer in his practice group, and the newest to swimming, he never complained. Not about the difficulty of the workout, not about the cold; He didn’t brag or boast, or try to compete with his teammates. He didn’t complain when a coach would get in the water to help him specifically, keeping him from joining the rest of the group’s workout. He took it all in stride, because he approached every moment of adversity with excitement and enthusiasm. That’s just who he is. And it all paid off: Niko is one of the fastest learning swimmers I’ve ever coached! And one of the most improved swimmers on our team. I feel like I have something to learn from Niko, who found the fun and enjoyment in every single thing we did, whether it was hard, easy, or boring. It’s not often that a swimmer will do an incredibly difficult set, touch the wall, then immediately ask, ‘What’s next?’. Thank you for your effort, Niko! Your coaches are so, so proud of you!” -Coach Tjasa
